Welcome to Safe Haven Parenting Assessment Unit. We are delighted to have you here and are committed to providing you a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for you and your child. This guide contains all the information you need during your stay, from the services we offer to practical tips for daily life.
The management
team and your key worker will work closely with you to help you settle in and
become familiar with all staff and other residents staying with us.
Our aim is to
empower you with the tools and guidance to develop good parenting skills to
safely care for your child. We will do all we can to support you to achieve a
good assessment outcome and provide a secure and loving home environment for
you and your child. If you have any questions or concerns, our staff are here
to support you every step of the way.

FACILITIES AND AMENITIES
Your Accommodation:
· Private, furnished room with essential amenities.
· Communal areas include a shared kitchen, playroom, and laundry facilities.
· A member of staff will be available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Any positive drug tests throughout the duration of your placement.
Play Areas:
· Safe, child-friendly spaces equipped with toys, books, and learning activities.
Kitchen:
· Fully equipped kitchen for meal preparation.
· Please label your food and clean up after use.
Laundry:
· Washing machines and dryers are available. Bring your own detergent.
Wi-Fi Access:
· Free Wi-Fi is available for residents. Child-safe filters are applied.
Placement Planning Meeting and Expectations
On
day one of your placement a placement planning meeting will be held with your
social worker and the residential manager. A discussion will take place to
agree a plan of the support you will need during your stay. Important information will be shared at this
meeting so you understand the assessment process and what is expected of you
and that we have correct information to provide you with the best possible
service.
Assessment Sessions
You
will meet with your lead assessor each week to conduct your parenting
assessment. Your lead assessor is a qualified social worker with experience in
working with children and families. This assessment will be based on the
information provided by your childs social worker, discussions with you,
observations of you and your child and information provided by your key
worker. These sessions will explore how
you feel about things that you have experienced in your past and support you to
think about how they can impact on your parenting in. Your lead assessor will
write reports about your progress with safe haven and make sure that your child
social worker is kept up to date.
House Rules And Expectations
Respect and
Bullying:
· Everyone has the right to feel safe and respected. Bullying or harassment of any kind will not be tolerated.
· If you experience or witness
bullying, report it to staff immediately.
Safety
Guidelines:
· Please ensure your child is not left unsupervised at any time unless agreed otherwise with staff. Residents are NOT permitted to care for another residents child.
· Keep hallways and exits clear at all times.
· Residents must not enter one another’s bedrooms.
Prohibited
Items:
· Drugs, alcohol, and weapons are strictly prohibited.
· There is no smoking or vaping anywhere in the home, only in designated areas in the back garden.
Privacy:
· Respect the privacy of others. Do
not share information about other residents without consent.
Conflict
Resolution:
· If conflicts arise, talk to a staff member for support or mediation. Safe Haven staff are committed to the safety and wellbeing of residents, children, visitors and staff. To help us all to work together positively we must follow the rules.
If any of the following happen, you will be asked to leave, and a disruption meeting will be called with your social worker.
· Any physical aggression and all threatening behaviour.
· Bringing illegal drugs or alcohol onto the premises.
· Intoxication within the home, whether due to alcohol or drugs.
· Any positive drug tests throughout the duration of your placement.
· Intimidation of another parent or staff.
· Theft or deliberate damage to property.
· If you leave the placement with your child without agreement, police and social services will be contacted.
· If you left the property without your child and did not return safe haven staff will care for your child until further decisions regarding the placement are reached.
