Job Title: Qualified Social Worker (Residential Parenting Assessment Unit)

Salary Band: £35,000 – £45,000 (pro rata) dependent on qualifications & experience
Contract Type: Permanent

Job Summary

We are currently seeking a dedicated and qualified Social Worker to join our Parenting Assessment Unit. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a unique and expanding organisation where you will play a pivotal role in assessing parenting capacity and coordinating support programmes for families in placement. The successful candidate will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure high-quality assessments and positive outcomes for families.

Key Responsibilities
• Undertake timely and high-quality parenting assessments for families in placement
• Coordinate and deliver tailored support programmes for families
• Ensure compliance with current regulations, legislation, and best practice guidelines
• Supervise and support junior staff and key workers within the unit
• Provide expert analysis and recommendations within written assessment reports
• Work collaboratively with local authorities, legal representatives, and other professionals
• Participate in multi-agency meetings and contribute to case planning
• Form part of an on-call team as required
• Promote the organisation’s values, ensuring professional standards are maintained at all time


Person Specification

Essential Qualifications and Experience

• A recognised Social Work qualification (BA/MA Social Work, DipSW, or equivalent)
• Registered with Social Work England
• Eligible to work in the UK
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Children and Families social work
• Experience in undertaking parenting assessments
• Knowledge of child care legislation and statutory/regulatory guidelines governing Parenting Assessment Centres
• A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
• Strong understanding of child development, safeguarding, and risk assessment
• Ability to work flexibly, adapt to challenges, and maintain confidentiality


Desirable Skills and Experience
• Previous experience in a residential parenting assessment unit
• Experience in court report writing and giving evidence in legal proceedings
• Knowledge of attachment theory and trauma-informed practice
• Training in group facilitation
• Experience supervising junior staff or support workers
