Referral Process
Parents
are referred to Safe Haven due to concerns for their parenting and require an in-depth
assessment of their parenting capacity.
We accept referrals nationwide from Local Authorities, Courts, Guardians, Legal Representatives and Solicitors. Parents with children of all ages will be considered, discussions will take place with the referring agent and relevant professionals to consider if Safe Haven is appropriate for the family. In some instances, the parent referred may be considered to present with some level of risk to their child or the environment. As a result, additional information will be required prior to a decision being made as to whether Safe Haven is a suitable placement.
All
referrals will go through a screening process to consider the presenting
concerns and level of risk in addition, careful consideration to matching
between current and proposed families awaiting placement.
A
member of our referrals team will be happy to have a discussion by telephone to
discuss the Local Authorities family profile however, we can not agree a
placement without receiving the following documents:-
· Recent Child and Family Assessment
· Court statement and proposed care plan
· Specialist Assessments- Cognitive, Psychological or Psychiatric assessment
· Medical History of parent and child
· Criminal History- Past and current
· If completed Local Authority risk Assessment
· Recent documentation or assessment considered relevant for consideration of placement.

Once a placement has been agreed we recommend parents and children (if considered appropriate) to visit Safe Haven to alleviate any anxiety for the parent/s and child. This will give parents the opportunity to view their room and ask staff any questions. Parents may wish to attend with a their child’s social worker or an agreed family member. Please note a retainer will be required to hold placements whilst waiting for next vacancy to become available. It is important for a placement planning meeting to take place prior to the placement start date if not this will need to be held on the day of placement to agree the support required for parents.
We will support parents and child to settle in as much as possible. Parents will be introduced to their lead assessor, family support worker, provided with a residence guide and shown around the local area.
Childs social worker will be provided with weekly updates by email and weekly observation records will be sent.
Please contact a member of our management team for any further information.
