4. How are referrals made?

Referrals are typically made through local authorities, social services, legal representatives, or the family courts. If you are a professional looking to refer a family, please contact us for further details.

5. What happens during a parenting assessment?

During the assessment, parents are supported while their parenting capacity, decision-making, and ability to meet their child’s needs are carefully evaluated. The process is tailored to the specific circumstances of the family and may involve observations, guidance, and structured interventions.

6. Do you offer assessments in family homes?

Yes, we provide community-based parenting assessments, which allow parents to be assessed in their own home or local environment. This helps professionals evaluate how parents function in a real-life setting and whether they can meet their child’s needs independently.

7. How long does an assessment last?

Assessments vary in length depending on the individual circumstances but typically last 12 to 16 weeks, in line with court requirements.

8. What kind of accommodation do you provide?

Our residential units offer safe, fully furnished, and supportive environments where parents can live with their babies while being assessed and supported. Each family has their own private space, and shared areas provide access to communal facilities, therapeutic spaces, and support services.

9. Who carries out the assessments?

Assessments are conducted by qualified professionals, including:

     • Social workers

• Parenting assessors

• Support workers

• Mental health professionals (where required)

10. Can families receive support after leaving Safe Haven?

Yes, we offer post-discharge services to ensure a smooth transition from residential care to independent living. This may include community-based support, parenting programmes, and signposting to additional services.

11. Do parents have to stay at Safe Haven voluntarily?

In most cases, parents agree to stay voluntarily as part of an assessment or intervention plan. However, some placements may be directed by the courts or local authorities.

12. Can family members visit during the assessment?

Visits are considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the circumstances of the assessment and any court-directed conditions. Supervised contact may be arranged where appropriate.
